What is Mastodon, And Why Should I Use It?

What is Mastodon?

Mastodon is a decentralized, federated social network, and an alternative to sites like Twitter. A federated site is one that is split across many, smaller sites that are all linked together. Being decentralized means that it is not all held in one place, or ran by one person or corporation.
